Developmental Resources for Pharmacy – Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)

This section signposts to a selection of resources available to raise awareness and develop the understanding and skills to provide culturally competent, inclusive care that meets the diverse needs of patients and contributes to improved health outcomes. Other training may be available elsewhere through other routes and providers.

The NHS England Inclusive Pharmacy Practice (IPP) is a joint initiative with a wide range of national organisations including the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) and Association of Pharmacy Technicians (APTUK).

The IPP focuses on making the workplace more inclusive for pharmacy professionals, with a senior leadership that reflects our diverse communities, to improve health inequalities in the population. It involves open conversations and meaningful actions to improve the experience of both patients and pharmacy professionals.

This includes a range of resources to support development of cultural competence and inclusive pharmacy practice aligned to the Joint National Plan for Inclusive Pharmacy Practice.

CPPE – Cultural Competence resources

The CPPE Culturally Competent Person-centred Care Gateway signposts to a range of key learning resources to support pharmacy professionals develop culturally competent pharmacy professional practice.

CPPE Transgender healthcare – consulting with dignity and respect

This programme looks at some of the issues that the transgender and non-binary community face when accessing healthcare services and discusses some of the measures pharmacy can take to provide an inclusive and supportive person-centred service for people in the transgender and non-binary community.

elearning for healthcare Cultural Competence and Cultural Safety Programme

The purpose of the Cultural Competence and Cultural Safety elearning programme supports healthcare staff to gain knowledge and understanding of the issues around culture and health, and how this might influence health care outcomes.

elearning for healthcare (elfh) – Core Cultural Competence

The modules aim to describe what is meant by culture and cultural competence, and the importance for health professionals to be aware of its impact on healthcare and patients.

elearning for healthcare (elfh) – Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Dementia Care

This training reviews how discrimination factors such as stigma, age, gender and ethnicity affect the experience of living with or caring for people with dementia and includes guidance on how to adapt your practice.

elearning for healthcare (elfh) - Understanding Disability

These modules support individuals to learn more about spectrum disabling conditions including learning disabilities, autism, deafness, complex and hidden conditions.

For trainers and supervisors:
A resource pack is available to enable supervisors and trainers in organisations to deliver disability training. The pack includes a slide deck, a facilitators guide, participants workbook, and fact sheets .

elearning for healthcare (elfh) – Learning Disability & Autism

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is the government’s preferred recommended training for health and social care staff.

Transgender Factsheets

It is estimated that one in a hundred patients may be transgender, therefore it is important for healthcare professionals to be able to provide inclusive care with safe and effective prescribing. BOPA and OUTpatients have developed resources that guide and supports healthcare professionals while caring for their transgender patients.
